Tyler Street style is an instant love affair

One of Stratford-upon-Avon’s most admired properties – on the market through agents CPBigwood at approaching £1 million – has gone under offer in just two weeks amid frantic interest.

No. 5 Tyler Street, an elegant double fronted Grade II listed late Georgian town house, gets admiring glances from locals and visitors alike.

“It is a very rare example for Stratford of a quiet, well located period town house, double fronted with good family accommodation,” said Tom Dennes, head of CPBigwood’s Country Homes division.

“A stunning property with a walled garden, a double garage and three parking spaces providing room for five cars – and all within 300 yards of the town centre. A quiet side road too – the best of all worlds.

“We were inundated with interest and, despite the wider difficulties of the housing market, ‘special properties’ are still highly sort after.

“It just shows the on-going appeal of living in Stratford. What might be described as ‘best in class’ continues to sell well, often with competition.”

The 3,077 sq ft property – which had a guide price of £935,000 – comprises four bedrooms and two bathrooms (one en-suite), entrance hall, sitting room, dining room and conservatory, kitchen, utility room, cellar and guest cloakroom.

One of a pair, 5 Tyler Street is believed to have been built in 1839. Queen Victoria came to the throne in 1837 so strictly speaking the house is early Victorian. But its style and elevations are very much those of the late Georgian period.

Many period features have been retained. These include high ceilings, deep skirting boards, sash windows, four and six panel wooden doors with brass door furniture, tiled entrance hall with staircase and predominantly cast iron radiators.

“I predicted someone was going to instantly fall in love with it,” said Mr Dennes. “I also predicted a lot of interest. Both came true.”

The pull of Stratford is boosted by the famed cultural scene including the internationally renowned and recently refurbished Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

The M40 is easily accessible providing good access to Birmingham to the north and London to the south. Trains to both cities run from Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick Parkway Station. And there are excellent schools in the town and surrounding area including Stratford Prep School, StratfordGrammar School for Girls in Shottery, King Edward VI Grammar School for boys, StratfordHigh School, The Croft Prep School and a variety of others.
